One day before the 7th annual VidCon event in Anaheim, California, the convention announced it will be expanding overseas in 2017.
Next year will see the addition of two new VidCon events: Amsterdam, which will take place April 8-9 at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre, and Melbourne, which will take place September 9-10 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“The growth of online video, and the ability for creators like myself to have such enjoyable careers, is due to a passionate and engaged community that is truly global,” said VidCon co-founder Hank Green. “We are excited that we can bring the VidCon experience to Europe and Australia, where the fan and creator communities are so strong and truly thriving.”
The two locations were chosen for their centralized locations and ease of access, as well as being home to prime concentrations of online video fans and creators alike.
“Over the past several years, we have seen tremendous demand to take the VidCon experience overseas, and we are excited to give European and Australian fans and creators the opportunity to take part in what has become such a special experience,” said Michael Gardner, VidCon COO, and Colin Hickey, VidCon Managing Director.
Demand for international events has been skyrocketing over recent years. Creators are plentiful throughout Europe and Australia, and even domestic creators have audiences that span all throughout the world. 80% of all views on YouTube come from outside of the United States, and the platform is localized in more than 88 countries
The new events are expected to attract approximately 7,500 fans, creators, and industry members. More information about ticket sales will be made available as the events draw closer.
