After a successful first run, VidCon Europe will be returning to Amsterdam in 2018, the organizers announced this week.
The convention, happening March 22-24, will feature just two programming tracks: Creator and Industry, doing away with the popular Community track that catered towards fans.
After a wave of backlash from fans on social media, VidCon released a post on Medium explaining more about their decision. “The Community Track just didn’t deliver what we wanted to give our attendees,” they wrote. “We felt that we needed to better engage with Europe’s unique creator communities in order to create a fan experience in the future that is up to our standards.”
The Industry track will take place on Thursday and Friday, and the Creator track will take place on Friday and Saturday. VidCon U.S. in Anaheim will still feature a Community track.
“The online video industry is the number one career choice for GenZ and young millennials,” said Travis Morss, Director of Content for VidCon. “More than seventy-five percent of kids and young adults are strongly considering a career in online video, while over a third say vlogging is their number one goal. Our creator track is the only place where these aspiring online video creators can help realize their future dreams.”
