Ten Years Later – Happy Birthday Social Blade

Today I am proud to announce that Social Blade is celebrating it’s 10th Birthday!  If you don’t run our own company this may not seem like a big deal but it actually is.  Depending on whose data you believe, somewhere from 70-96% of businesses fail within 10 years so when I say that we’re not only alive but last year was our best year yet this is a pretty big deal!

I won’t recap our whole story as I did last year but in general we began this journey in 2008 from humble beginnings.  I (Jason Urgo) built Social Blade in my spare time as a tool for myself and friends and little by little kept expanding it as my own interests expanded too.  In 2017, according to Google Analytics, for the first time we had over a billion views in the year reaching about 50 million unique users from all over the world!

From day 1 my goal was to create the best, most useful, most trustworthy, most transparent social media analytics website and provide it free/cheap (shout out to those who aren’t running ad block on our site or have purchased a subscription to remove ads!) to the community and that goal hasn’t changed.

If you ask me what I see 10 years from now honestly I don’t know what to tell you.  YouTube and most other social media started out as a way to be independent from traditional media and has ended up turning into traditional media for the most part.  I think there is a chance that thanks to the developing cryptocurrency, blockchain, and distributed decentralized computing world that we may see this model challenged again.  Either way, we’re excited to go along for this ride with you all, wherever it takes us.

On behalf of the Social Blade, thank you for your support over the past 10 years and Happy Birthday Social Blade!

    Jason Urgo
