First off I’d like on behalf of the entire Social Blade team to thank you all for joining us for our first year here doing the show. Today’s (though only episode 49, we a little break around the end of the year for the holidays) our one year anniversary and we couldn’t have done it without all of you! Tonight’s show also was jam packed as we not only had some really interesting topics to cover such as Mistakes made in our professional lives and how not to do them again to youtube giving out 5 million dollars to partners (please help email youtube and tell them SocialBlade should be in this program!). We were also joined by two of the top diggers of all time, MrBabyMan and LtGenPanda to discuss their thoughts on digg’s new site “soon” to launch which is currently in invite-only (but easy to get) alpha mode.
Mistakes We Have Made A Few
Avinash Kaushik (Analytics Evangelist at Google and the author of the best-selling business books, Web Analytics – An Hour A Day and Web Analytics 2.0) reached out to me about an idea for an episode of the Six Pixels of Separation podcast. Kaushik wanted to have a candid conversation not about what we’ve done right in business and in Social Media, but what we got wrong and what we learned from it. It’s powerful to reflect on your mistakes and the outcomes, and it was also a fascinating conversation about Marketing, leadership, management, maturity, Social Media and every other nook and cranny we’ve both played in (and got ours knees scraped along the way).

Viral Done Right: The Hyper-Personal ‘Old Spice Man’
Advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy created a monster with their recent campaign of ‘Old Spice Man’ commercials, featuring the irresistible appeal of former NFL wide receiver Isaiah Mustafa. These commercials may have made their debut on television, but they really reached the apex of their popularity on the internet, thanks to their viral spread across social networks and content aggregators such as Digg, Reddit, Twitter and Facebook.
